Ingredients

  • Reduced-fat Mozzarella sticks 6
  • All-purpose flour 1/4Cup
  • Large Eggs 2
  • Bread Crumbs 1/3Cup
  • Onion Powder 1tsp
  • Garlic Powder 1tsp
  • Paprika 1/2tsp
  • Crushed Black Pepper 1/2tsp
  • Salt 1/4tsp
  • Cooking Spray
  • Dried Oregano 1/2tsp

For Tomato Dipping Sauce

  • Canned Tomato Sauce 15oz
  • Olive oil 1tsp
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes 1/8tsp
  • Garlic Powder 1tsp
  • Salt 1/4tsp
  • Sugar 1/8tsp

 

Ingredient Notes

Mozzarella Sticks: I prefer to use Trader Joe’s low moisture per skim mozzarella sticks. You can choose any brand.
All-purpose flour: It helps all ingredients adhere well to the sticks.
Bread Crumbs: I used panko crumbs to add crispiness. You can add any kind of breadcrumbs to your dietary instructions.

Instructions

  1. Making of Tomato Dipping Sauce
  2. Warm olive oil in a pan for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add garlic powder to this oil and simmer it for a minute.
  4. Next, add sugar, salt, red chili pepper flakes, and canned tomato in this pan.
  5. Cook it to a medium flame until the sauce is boiled.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and cook it for 10-15 minutes.
  7. After 15 minutes, set aside the sauce.

Making of sticks

  1. Add garlic powder, black pepper, oregano, salt, and panko bread crumbs to a plate.
  2. Mix all ingredients and set aside.
  3. Shift all-purpose flour into a small plate.
  4. Add egg into a bowl and beat it well. Set aside the bowl.
  5. First, coat mozzarella sticks with flour, dip them in beaten eggs, and third coat them with panko breadcrumbs.
  6. Coat all sticks with the same instructions.
  7. Refrigerate the coated sticks for 1 hour before baking or air fryer.

Oven

  1. Adjust the oven temperature to 425 degrees to bake sticks.
  2. Cover the baking tray with baking paper and coat it with cooking spray.
  3. Place coated sticks into this tray in a line-wise direction.
  4. Bake for 9-14 minutes or until its upper layer is light brown.
  5. The yummy mozzarella sticks are ready to eat.

Air-fryer

  1. First, we will set the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees.
  2. Transfer sticks to an air-fryer tray and apply a single coat of oil over the sticks.
  3. Cook for 6-8 minutes or until the upper top is crunchy.
  4. Serve delicious sticks with homemade tomato dip.

Serving Ideas

Serve the yummy and cheesy sticks with whole-grain bread, Caprese salad, roasted veggies, whole-grain crackers, baked chicken, grilled sandwiches, and low-point soups.
