  • 1 egg yolk
  • A little powdered sugar
  • One tbsp low-fat milk
  • Paper muffin cups
  • One large red apple

INGREDIENT NOTES:

PUFF PASTRY:

  • It makes the base of the apple roses and gets golden when we bake. You may utilize reduced-fat puff pastry as a replacement.

RED APPLES:

  • Add apples for natural sweetness and fruit taste in the dessert. The red skin of apples makes the beautiful rose-petal look. You may use pear as an alternative if apples are not available.

LEMON JUICE:

  • This juice keeps the apple slices from turning brown and maintains the sweetness of the jam. You may replace it with orange juice as per your choice.

REDUCED-SUGAR APRICOT JAM:

  • We use this apricot jam to add sweetness and fruit flavor to the dessert. This jam also sticks the slices properly and keeps the filling moist. You may use reduced-sugar apple jam as another idea.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. First, warm the oven to 190°C and put paper muffin cups in the muffin spaces.
  2. Wash the apple, then cut it in half and remove the core.
  3. Make thin slices of the apple using a peeler and toss them with lemon juice.
  4. Unroll the chilled puff pastry and cut it into 6 equal strips, then spread a thin layer of apricot jam.
  5. Put the apple slices on the upper half of the strips and slightly overlap them.
  6. Fold the lower half of each strip over the bottom of the slices and roll them gently into a rose shape.
  7. Press the pastry end lightly and place each rose in the muffin cup.
  8. Brush the pastry properly after mixing the egg yolk with low-fat milk.
  9. Bake the roses for 40 minutes, then cover them with foil for 20 minutes if the apples become brown.
