INGREDIENTS

  • Spray of olive oil or one tbsp.
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of flour
  • Black pepper, a pinch
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt
  • One pinch of salt
  • 3 slices of bacon
  • Onion powder, one-fourth tsp.
  • 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese
  • Powdered garlic, one-fourth tsp.
  • An egg

INGREDIENT NOTES

BACON

  • We are using the cooked and crumbled slices of Turkey bacon. It is a leaner version as compared to pork bacon, maintaining the points in the budget. Vegan bacon or plant-based crumbles may also work instead.

EGG

  • Apply the beaten egg using the brush to give them a visually pleasing golden finish. This golden finish can also be achieved by using unsweetened almond milk if you want to go egg-free.

FLOUR

  • We are using the self-rising flour here, which already contains salt and baking powder, so the dough rises better. Replace it with whole-wheat self-rising flour for fewer points.

POWDERED ONION AND GARLIC

  • These are the aromatics that provide savory depth with their classic aroma without adding calories.

YOGURT

  • We are using non-fat Greek yogurt to achieve the soft texture of the rolls and bind them well. It replaces butter and oil, lowering the points and calories.

CHEESE

  • Using the reduced-fat version of shredded cheddar cheese provides a gooey texture and rich flavor. Low-fat mozzarella also works well but provides a milder flavor.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. First of all, set your oven’s temperature to 190 °C or preheat it.
  2. Spread the parchment liner on the baking tray and then start your work.
  3. Combine garlic powder, black pepper, self-rising flour, onion powder, and salt in a big vessel.
  4. Stir with a spoon after adding the Greek yogurt to produce a rough dough.
  5. Apply dry flour to your hands and knead the dough to make it non-sticky and smooth.
  6. Now, roll up the dough into a rectangle shape, keeping it one-fourth inch thick.
  7. Add the bacon crumbles(cooked) equally over the whole rectangle of dough.
  8. Now, similarly spread the shredded cheese.
  9. Apply pressure to the dough using the rolling pin.
  10. Start rolling the dough tightly from one long end into a log.
  11. Make eight equal slices from that log and arrange them nicely on the lined baking tray.
  12. Apply the beaten egg on the top for a nice golden twist.
  13. Insert the tray with ready-to-bake rolls in the oven for baking.
  14. Shift the tray with baked rolls from the oven to the countertop after 22-25 minutes.
  15. Five minutes later, shift all the rolls on the wire rack to cool properly.
  16. Serve these delicious Cheese and Bacon Bread Rolls warm and crisp.

TIPS

  • Silicone baking mats under the rolls will make it easy for you to clean up the mess.
  • A nutritious boost can be obtained by adding chopped spinach or green onions.
  • Use an air fryer to heat them for that signature out-of-the-oven crisp.
  • You can make either smaller rolls for snacking or bigger ones for making sandwiches.
  • A pinch of Bagel seasoning on the top before baking will boost the flavor.

STORAGE DIRECTION

FRIDGE

  • Upon cooling, pack the rolls in a locked vessel. Rewarm in the air fryer and consume them anytime within the next five days.

FREEZER

  • Once the baked rolls have cooled down properly, pack them all in the freezer-friendly bag. Move them to the fridge 24 hours earlier to defrost. Warm them to restore their crispness sing an oven or air fryer.

FAQs

Is that possible to use other cheeses as well?

  • Yes, you may use light Swiss, low-fat mozzarella, or Parmesan cheese instead of reduced-fat cheddar cheese. You will only get a slight change in the flavor.

Are these rolls suitable for advanced preparation?

  • These rolls reheat well and become as crisp as freshly baked. That’s why they are perfectly suitable to make in advance.

May I use the almond flour instead of self-rising flour?

  • We recommend that you stick to the self-rising flour as it rises well compared to the almond flour.
