INGREDIENT NOTES:

LEAN GROUND TURKEY:

WHOLE WHEAT BREADCRUMBS:

  • Adding whole wheat breadcrumbs to your meatballs will give them fiber. Also, these will help in combining the meatballs properly so they do not break. Use crushed oats for substitution.

EGG:

  • Egg will also combine your meatballs and make them into a proper shape. You can add two tbsp of milk with one tbsp of cornstarch for a substitute option.

ONION:

  • Onion will make your meatballs sweeter. Also, if you use onion, it will give softness to your meatballs. You may also use onion powder for a different choice.

GARLIC POWDER:

  • This powder will give you a good garlic taste in your recipe. It can also mix in the meatballs easily and make them savory. Use fresh garlic if you don’t have this powder.

COOKING SPRAY:

  • Cooking spray will cook your meatballs in the non-stick frying pan. It can make your meatballs brown as well. We will not use olive oil because it can make the recipe heavy. An alternative for you can be baking them on baking paper.

LIGHT BUTTER:

  • Your meatballs will get a traditional Swedish taste from it. Light butter will also not make your recipe too heavy. Use light margarine for another idea, too.

ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR:

  • We utilize flour to make the sauce thicker. Here, this flour will also give your sauce smoothness. You can add cornstarch slurry for an alternative option as well.

LOW-SODIUM BEEF BROTH:

  • This will make your sauce flavorful. You can add vegetable broth instead of this broth as well.

PLAIN NONFAT GREEK YOGURT:

  • If you use this yogurt, your sauce will become creamy. Light sour cream can also work for your sauce in this recipe.

WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE:

  • Worcestershire sauce will make your sauce tangy. Add soy sauce instead if you need another idea for this.

WIDE EGG NOODLES:

  • You will pair these noodles with the meatballs to make your dish classic. The sauce will feel good when you serve it with these noodles. Zucchini noodles or whole wheat pasta is another choice as well.
