Keto Chili is a delicious & spicy main course that everyone will enjoy for sure. It contains a good proportion of protein & healthy fats. That is why it will provide You energy when you are on the keto diet. The spicy flavor & classical aroma make it worth making. You may lower the heat by omitting the green chillis. It provides us with a range of culinary possibilities. We may use a stovetop, instant pot, or crockpot (slow cooker). Keto Chilli only has 10 g of net carbs/serving.

EQUIPMENT:

  • Slow cooker/Instant Pot/stovetop

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Bay leaf, normal-sized
  • A little oil of olive
  • Powdered peppercorn, 1 teaspoon
  • 1/2 diced onion (large)
  • Salt, 2 tsp
  • 8 cloves of minced garlic
  • A tablespoon of oregano (dried)
  • 2.5 pounds of beef (ground)
  • Cumin, 2 tbsp
  • Two cans of tomatoes (diced), 15 ounces each
  • 1/4 cup of powdered chili
  • Six-ounce can of tomato paste, 1
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can of green chillies, Weigh 4 ounce

INGREDIENT NOTES:

CANNED TOMATOES:

Here in the recipe, we are using two types of canned tomatoes. Tomato paste & diced tomatoes. Feel free to substitute tomato paste for its chunks if you’d rather not have them. If you like smoky flavor, then you may go for fire-roasted tomatoes in place of regular ones.
While buying the paste of tomato, always go through its label to check if there are any additional carbs or not.

CHILI POWDER:
It is the most important item without which this recipe couldn’t exist. The spices, if powdered a year ago, have lost their flavor & strength. Always try to go for the spices ground right in front of you. This fresh powdered chili has a stronger taste.

MEAT:
You may use the meat of your choice. It might be pork, turkey, chicken, or beef. We are using only beef (ground) here. That’s up to you. You may use a combo of beef & pork, chicken + beef, beef & turkey.

ONION & GARLIC:
You may use the powdered onion & garlic, but it will not taste great. We recommend you use fresh onions & fresh garlic cloves for their signature aroma.

GREEN CHILLIES:
To add every flavor to your keto chili, use the green chili as well. It includes a little bit of spice & lots of classic flavor & aroma.
If you want to avoid the spice, then use bell peppers instead.

WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE:
It is not the keto sauce, but we are adding it in a miniature quantity. This way it will not increase our carb intake because the dish is large in quantity. It is optional only for extra flavor.

INSTRUCTIONS:

USING STOVETOP:

  1. Put the Dutch oven over the normal-high heat on the stove.
  2. Mix in a tiny bit of oil with the onions.
  3. Fry them until they become soft for about 6/8 minutes.
  4. If you want to have the caramelized onions, fry them for almost 18/20 minutes.
  5. Now, include the minced garlic & roast it till it gives the classical aroma.
  6. After that, include the beef (ground) in it.
  7. Continue to break up the ground beef till it turns white.
  8. Then include the remaining items in it & mix to combine well.
  9. At last, place the leaf (bay) between and cover the Dutch oven.
  10. Let it cook till the taste develops according to you.
  11. It may take an hour or more.
  12. To serve, remove the bay leaf.

SLOW COOKER/CROCK-POT:

  1. Place a large skillet on a normal-high flame.
  2. Include oil & onion in it and cook till they become translucent.
  3. You have the choice to golden brown the onions.
  4. After that, include garlic & give it a minute to fry.
  5. Now, include the minced beef & sauté it using a wooden spoon.
  6. After the color shift, move the mixture of meat to the crockpot.
  7. Include all the remaining items in it & combine them well.
  8. Then insert the bay leaf.
  9. Cook, covered, for around 7/8 hours on low or about 3/4 hours on high.
  10. Take the bay leaf out with care before serving.

INSTANT POT INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Once the instant pot is plugged in, hit the “Saute” button.
  2. Include oil & onions to caramelize.
  3. Once your onions turn golden brown, then add the minced garlic.
  4. Fry till you get the classical aroma of garlic.
  5. Next, include the mince of beef in it.
  6. Saute the mince while stirring it in a continuous manner till it changes color.
  7. Then include all the remaining items in it & stir well.
  8. Place the leaf (bay) & an extra cup of water.
  9. To end the sauté, click the “cancel” button.
  10. Press the button named “meat/stew,” which has set to work for 35 minutes.
  11. After the time has passed, the heat will turn off
  12. The instant pot starts to release pressure by itself.
  13. Eliminate the leaf (bay), then serve!

TIPS:

You may adjust it based on your preference. If you’d prefer it hotter, then increase the amount of green chili. If you want to keep its heat low, then you may omit the green chillis.

STORAGE INFORMATION:

FRIDGE:
Pack this remaining keto chili in the locked vessel. Use the fridge to keep it safe & eat within 4/5 days. It will taste nice when you keep it in the fridge & reheat it to use.

FREEZER:
The dish is too suitable for freezing over a long time. As this dish makes a large batch, make the parts & freeze them in the bag (freezer-safe). Press them flat while freezing & align them in a vertical manner to save space in the freezer.

REHEAT:
If you freeze it, then you have to defrost it by transferring it into the fridge for hours. Then use a skillet, microwave, or slow cooker (warm option) to get your keto chili as warm as fresh.

FAQs:

Can we add the beef, onion, and garlic in raw form to the slow cooker/instant pot?
I know that is too easy, but if you fry the onion, beef, & garlic, your flavor will increase 4 times more. If you still want to choose the easier option, then you have to compromise on the taste.

What ratio should we use to not have extra oily keto chili?
Never use the beef with more than 20 percent of fat. If you don’t have lean meat, then sauté the beef in the pan in a separate manner & drain its extra oil.

Will one-fourth cup of powdered chili make our keto chili extra spicy?
Yes, this will be the perfect amount, as it not only adds heat but also adds great classic flavor to our keto chili. If you want to lower the heat, then reduce or omit the use of green chilli.
