INGREDIENT NOTES:
Almond flour:
- Flour of almond provides light and fluffy donuts which is perfect for a low-carb diet. Almond meal is also used here but it provides a heavy texture.
If you want your donuts free of nuts, we can use flour or sunflower seed to make them nut-free.
Granulated sugar:
- I make these keto protein donuts with both monk fruit and swerve sweetener and both give the same result and don’t leave an aftereffect.
Eggs:
- Keeps the eggs on the room temperature before being placed in to donut batter. We may also use flax eggs but have not tried it personally.
Greek yogurt:
- Greek yogurt provides the required moisture and softness to the donuts as well as to all baking goods. Sour cream also works well for this purpose.
Whey protein:
- Use whey protein in isolate form, it contains more protein content than others and is also low in carb content than simple whey powder. We can also use protein of egg white instead of whey protein.
Cream cheese:
- I utilize cheese (cream) in the coating of keto donuts. It provides structure to the frosting with the utilization of lots of sugar.
Butter and oil:
- I use avocado ilk in the batter, but you can also use butter as well for the batter. You can also add butter to the frosting.
Vanilla:
- This is a specific recipe for vanilla donuts so I use extract of vanilla. You can add any flavor of extract like lemon extract, or caramel extract according to your change in the recipe.
Keto sprinkles:
- I add keto sprinkles to decorate the donuts; you can add keto chocolate chips as well. This is not compulsory to decorate the donuts, we can also leave this step.
