INGREDIENTS

  • Two tablespoons
  • of butter (salted)
  • A quarter cup of chopped onion
  • One celery rib chopped
  • Half a teaspoon of salt
  • One clove of garlic (minced)
  • Two cups of chicken soup
  • One tablespoon of tomato paste
  • Four ounces of cream cheese
  • One cup of heavy whippy cream
  • Eight ounces of smoked salmon
  • Two tablespoons capers
  • Two tablespoons red onion (chopped)

INGREDIENT NOTES

Salmon

  • Hot smoked salmon which is thicker single piece of salmon is used in this recipe. You can use any other kind as well like cold smoke salmon (appearance might change). Or if you are not found of smoky flavor you can also use regular salmon to avoid smoky flavor.

Celery

  • Celery is used in this recipe because it is high in fiber and low in carb which make it perfect to include in the keto recipe.

Onion

  • Onion has a slightly higher carb content than others, so I omitted the onion in large quantities.

Garlic

  • Fresh garlic is use for the nice aroma and flavor.

Chicken broth

  • Chicken broth is used in this recipe. You can also use the seafood or vegetable broth.

Cream cheese

  • Cream cheese is adds in this keto recipe to main its thick consistency and creamy texture.

Red onions

  • Red onions is use to garnish the salmons. And it is totally optional; you can skip it if you want.

INSTRUCTIONS

Saute the vegetable

  1. Take the large pan and add the butter on a medium heat and melt it.
  2. Then add the onion and celery in the butter and add some salt in the pot.
  3. Saute the vegetable until it gets cooked for about five minutes.

Boil the soup

  1. Take a saucepan and pour the oil in the pot.
  2. Then add the garlic until it changes color slightly.
  3. Pour the chicken soup and tomato paste wait until it gets boiled
  4. Whisk it in between to combine both ingredients.

Blend the cream cheese

  1. Put the cream cheese and the hot chicken soup and tomato paste in the blender. Mix it until it get the smooth consistency.

Add the fish

  1. Pour the blended mixture in the sauce pan, and then include the whippy cream, smoked salmon, and vegetables into the sauce pan.
  2. Allow it to cook on medium low heat to warm it up.

Garnish and serve

  1. Dish out the soup in the bowl and toped it with red onions and slice of lemons.

TIPS

  • If you want to make chowder little thick, you can add the glucomannan. Pour out half cup of chicken soup and mix half teaspoon of glucomannan and make a paste then add it in the pan slightly and whisk it until the desired consistency.
  • You can also add the eight ounce of cauliflower in the pan and cook it until it gets soft. Now blend it with the sauce in the blender.

STORAGE INFORMATION

Fridge

  • Store the smoked salmon chowder in the packed container for three to four days.

Freezer

  • Salmon chowder not goes great in the freezer.

  • For the keto version cream cheese and glucomannan is used. You can also add the cauliflower and blend with the sauce. Traditional chowders use flour, potatoes, or cornstarch to maintain its consistency.

Is there any possibility that I prepare this dish before time?

  • It is good to consume fresh smoked salmon. But you can also put this in the closed bowl in the fridge and reheat it gently on a low flame. But you cannot freeze them because it is a cream-containing soup. And cream gets split while reheating.
