INGREDIENTS:

STEAK

  • Oil of olives, 1 tbsp.
  • 681 g of Flank steak
  • Salt, 1 tsp.

DRESSING OR MARINADE:

  • Paste of Thai red curry, 1 tbsp.
  • One-fourth cup of Soy sauce (low-sodium)
  • A quarter tsp of pepper powder
  • Oil of olives, 1/4 cup
  • A tablespoon of fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of lime.

SALAD:

  • 1/4th cup of Thai basil.
  • A cup of chopped cucumbers.
  • An onion (thin slices), one-fourth of a cup.
  • Six cups of chopped bibb lettuce
  • 1/4th cup of chopped cilantro(fresh)
  • Halved grape tomatoes, 1 cup.

INGREDIENT NOTES:

  • STEAK:
    There is a choice between sirloin, skirt, and flank steak. The salad makes a perfect pair with any one of these types. Flank steak along with the marinade tastes best and gets tender quickly. This is why the recipe uses flank steak here.
  • OIL:
    Cooking of steak requires the oil. It is up to you that use the oil of avocado or olives.
  • SALT:
    Besides, to make the steak salty, the purpose of the salt is to help the steak get tenderized well
  • MARINADE AND DRESSING:
    We make a sauce and use it as a marinade as well as dressing. It gives an additional boost of flavor. Moreover, we don’t have to waste time in making separate marinade and dressing.
  • FISH SAUCE:
    Its use is too common in Thai cuisine. It gives a savory and deep flavor. You will easily find it at any store in the market. Be aware of any processed ingredients while buying.
  • SOY SAUCE:
    It works the same as coconut aminos. Soy sauce is free from the sweet touch that is the feature of coconut aminos. Soy sauce also adds a deep salty and umami flavor.
  • THAI RED CURRY PASTE:
    Buy it along with fish sauce from the store. This paste consists of garlic, lemongrass, and red chili peppers. Thai red curry paste makes your steak and salad spicy
  • LIME JUICE:
    It is up to you that you either use the juice of lime or lemon. It helps to enhance the steak flavor by tenderizing the meat. Always try to use fresh juice.
  • SALAD:
    The best part of all the salads is that we are free to throw veggies of our choice. The recipe uses the following veggies:
  • FRESH HERBS:
    The recipe calls for basil of Thai and cilantro. Finding Thai basil may be challenging. Feel free to use normal fresh basil/mint leaves.
  • LETTUCE:
    As we are independent to add the veggies of our choice. So, we add mixed leafy greens, spinach, or romaine lettuce as well. Here we are using the bibb lettuce.
    ONION:
    Again prefer your choice of green onions, shallots, or red standard onion. Red onion gives a sharp flavor and crunchy bite to your salad.
    VEGGIES:
    The addition of grape tomatoes and cucumbers adds juice to our salad. If you like bell peppers and broccoli then feel free to use that.

INSTRUCTIONS:

MAKING MARINADE OR DRESSING:

  1. Grab a small bowl.
  2. Add fish sauce, lime juice, olive oil, soy sauce, pepper powder, and Thai red curry paste.
    combine well and your marinade/dressing is ready.
  3. Feel free to add more Thai curry paste if you wish to add more heat.

STEAK SEASONING:

  1. Apply the salt on each side of the steak.
  2. Place the steak on a dish and use half a cup of marinade to coat the steak well.
  3. Wrap the dish that contains the marinated meat with the cling wrap.
  4. Use the refrigerator to let it sit for 120 or 150 minutes.
  5. Marinade goes deep inside the steak depending on timing in the fridge.

SALAD MAKING:

  1. Meanwhile, Wash and chop all the veggies.
  2. Mix them to make the salad.

STEAK COOKING:

  1. Take a pan and heat it well on the stove.
  2. After heating the pan well add oil.
  3. Add the marinated steak right after adding oil to the pan.
  4. Give the steak 300 or 360 seconds for one side to get tenderized.
  5. Measure its temperature using the meat thermometer.
  6. It must be 71 or 72 degrees C.
  7. Give your steak the rest of 5 minutes.
  8. Then start making slices of the steak against the grain.

ASSEMBLING

  1. Grab a serving bowl.
  2. Transfer the mixed and chopped salad.
  3. Arrange the slice of cooked beef steak.
  4. Drip the dressing over the top to enjoy the spiked taste.

TIPS:

Marination time is too important:
If you marinate for less than 120 minutes then it would not go inside of the grain of the steak.
Marination time must not get over 24 hours or the steak will get over tenderized.

Easy marination:
Use a small bowl, dish, or zip-lock bag so that our steak dips well in the marinade.

Perfect cooked steak:
The ideal way to check if the steak is tender or not is to use a thermometer of meat.
