Keto Unagi Dong, a restaurant-style meal that tastes fantastic over a bowl of rice, is perfectly seasoned. This unagi dong id prepared in just several minutes. “Don” means bowl, and “unagi” means “eel” in Japanese. The well-known Japanese cuisine unagi donburi, unadon, or unagi kabayaki is made out of marinated eel fillets that are then grilled, fried, or baked. Unagi Dong tastes very different. You will only need to spend ten minutes in the kitchen from preparation to plating, which includes preparing the sauce from scratch. This Unagi Dong only contains 7g of carbs, 1g of fiber, 6g of net carbs, and 14g of proteins in the dish.

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 8-ounce unagi fillets
- ¼ cup unagi sauce
INGREDIENTS NOTES:
UNAGI FILLETS:
- Unagi fillets are available in both Japanese and mainstream grocery shops (in the freezer section).
- I got mine from a supplier of sushi and sashimi. Unagi fillets are often smoked or pre-seasoned.
- If you purchase pre-flavored fillets, it will be useless to add sauce.
EEL SAUCE:
- Prepare your ell sauce to keep up on the keto diet utilize tamari, sweetener, apple cider or rice vinegar, & garlic powder instead of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar.
ACCOMPANIMENTS:
- Onsen eggs, steaming edamame beans, Japanese pickles, and white rice are my favorites.

- Set the oven temperature to two hundred degrees C or four hundred degrees F. Spray oil on a large baking sheet, line with tin foil, and put aside.
- After taking the unagi fillets out of their box, thoroughly blot dry with a paper towel.
- Put the unagi dong fillet on the tin foil and broil them for seven to eight minutes.
- Put the unagi fillets on the counter and chill them for two minutes then pour the eel sauce over the fillets.
- Serve the unagi dong as soon as possible with the desired side dishes.
SERVING IDEAS:
- Although unagi is often served in a rice bowl with Japanese pickles, you may experiment with different sides, such as sautéed bok choy, grilled sweet potatoes, or cauliflower fried rice. It’s also delicious in sushi rolls, such as dragon rolls.
- Unagi Don is the ideal accompaniment to a warm bowl of miso soup, which is a classic and cozy side dish. Just use a miso paste that isn’t sweetened.
- The tasty and light vegetable side dish sautéed spinach with garlic and sesame oil balances the richness of the eel with a burst of freshness.
- A fantastic low-carb substitute for regular noodles, zucchini noodles go well with Unagi Don to add even more vegetables.
- To counter the richness of the Unagi Don, this crisp and light Japanese cucumber salad provides a pleasant acidity balance.
- Eel goes well with mushrooms, which are another excellent choice for a side dish since they bring umami and a savory element.
TIPS:
- Broil the eel at all times. Broiling quick caramelization of the outside, which allows the eel sauce to soak in. It greatly enhances the dish’s taste and tenderness.
- Eliminate extra fluids. You’ll probably be purchasing the eel frozen or thawed unless you manage to catch it yourself. Except for the occasional wet or melted ice pocket, this is not a problem at all. Before cooking, be careful to wipe everything up.
- Include the sauce as soon as they get cooked. Spread the sauce over the eel rapidly so it soaks in after you’ve let it sit for a few minutes.
- Add a garnish. For added taste, I like to garnish my bowls of eel rice with crushed nori sheets, sesame seeds, and scallions.
STORAGE INFORMATION:
FRIDGE:
- Put the remaining unagi dong in the closed box and store them for 3 days in the fridge.
FREEZE:
- We always buy frozen eel; so it is not preferable to freeze the eel more.
