INGREDIENT NOTES:
LEAN GROUND BEEF:
- It gives a rich and savory beef flavor to the filling while keeping the recipe lighter. Lean beef is also the main source of protein in the stromboli. You may use thinly sliced lean sirloin steak as an alternative.
ONION:
- It gives sweetness and a soft texture to the filling. Onion becomes tender and slightly caramelized when we cook it. You may use yellow onion, white onion, or sweet onion as another choice.
GREEN BELL PEPPER:
- Green bell pepper also adds volume without adding many calories. You may use yellow bell pepper as a substitute.
MUSHROOMS:
- They give a meaty texture and savory flavor to the filling. Mushrooms also add extra vegetables and make the stromboli filling more satisfying. You may use extra bell pepper if you do not prefer mushrooms.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First, cover the sheet with baking paper and warm the oven to 400°F.
- Coat the skillet with cooking spray and break the lean ground beef into small pieces.
- Cook the beef for 7 minutes and drain the extra liquid from the skillet properly.
- Include sliced onion, bell pepper, & mushrooms in the skillet, then cook for seven minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt in the skillet.
- Then cook the ingredients for 2 minutes and turn off the flame to cool the mixture.
- Put the pizza dough on the floured surface and roll it into a thin rectangle about 30 x 40 cm.
- Sprinkle 50g of the reduced-fat mozzarella in the center of the dough and leave 3cm edges around the filling.
- Spread the cooled beef and vegetable mixture evenly on the cheese and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on it.
- Fold the short sides of the dough upward and roll it into a tight log.
- Pinch the seam to seal and put the stromboli on the sheet, seam facing down.
- Beat the egg white in the small bowl and brush a thin layer of it on the top of the stromboli.
- Sprinkle Parmesan cheese and remaining Italian seasoning on top and make 3-4 small cuts on the stromboli.
- Bake the stromboli for 30 minutes, then cool it for ten minutes before cutting.
- Lastly, cut the stromboli into 6 equal portions and serve warm.
