  • A single spoonful of cornstarch
  • One teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • A single teaspoon of brown sugar, or a sugar alternative

  • 1/2 a cup of traditional oats
  • Half a cup of applesauce without sugar
  • One tablespoon of syrup made from maple
  • Six percent teaspoon of salt
  • Spray for cooking

INGREDIENT NOTES:

Apples:

  • Firm apples such as Honeycrisp, Fuji/Granny Smith should be used. Cut them into thin pieces in order to have an even bake.

Lemon Juice:

  • It prevents browning of these apples. It also gives off a bright taste.

Cornstarch:

  • Tirks the juices during the baking of apples. This prevents it from being too watery.

Cinnamon:

  • Comes along with the rich taste. And you may put nutmeg, or Apple pie spice.

Oats:

  • Old-fashioned oats are textured. Do not use quick oats, which go mushy.

Applesauce:

  • They replace butter. This maintains the topping wet and airy.

Maple Syrup:

  • Brings in natural sweetness. Opt for sugar-free syrup to get fewer points.
