Ingredients

  • Green Peas 1 cup (200g)
  • Vegetable Oil 1tsp
  • Finely Chopped Onion 1
  • Minced Garlic Cloves 2
  • Diced Shape Carrots 2
  • Chopped Celery Stalks 2
  • Chicken Broth 6 cups (1.5 liters)
  • Diced Turkey Ham 1 cup
  • Bay Leaf 1
  • Salt 1/4tsp or to taste
  • Freshly ground Black Pepper 1/4tsp

Ingredient Notes

Green Peas:

  • I used split peas instead of regular fresh peas. These dried-form peas are typically used in soups and stews.

Instructions

Instant Pot

  1. First, we will adjust the instant pot settings.
  2. Pour vegetable oil and warm it for 1/2 minutes.
  3. Next, add carrots, onion, celery, and minced garlic to this warm oil.
  4. Cook it for 5/6 minutes until all vegetables are tender.
  5. Meanwhile, wash the peas and shift them in a colander to dry.
  6. After that, add black pepper, diced ham, a pinch of salt, rinsed split peas, and chicken broth to this instant pot.
  7. Make sure the vent is sealed before closing the instant pot lid.
  8. Cook it on high pressure for 7- 12 minutes.
  9. After 12 minutes, leave the instant pot for 5-10 minutes to remove its pressure.
  10. Now, remove the instant pot lid and discard the bay leaf.
  11. Add salt and black pepper after checking the seasoning of the soup.
  12. Pour this soup into a soup bowl.
  13. Top with chopped parsley and croutons.

Stovetop

  1. Shift the non-stick pan on the burner.
  2. Turn the heat up to medium and grease with olive oil. Warm it for two or three minutes.
  3. Next, add carrots, celery, onion, and chopped garlic to this pan.
  4. Simmer it for 4/5 minutes until all vegetables are soft.
  5. After that, add a pinch of salt, diced ham, black pepper, rinsed peas, and chicken broth to this pan.
  6. Mix all ingredients by using a cooking spoon.
  7. Next, lower the flame and cook it for an hour.
  8. After that, check the thickness of the soup.
