INGREDIENTS:

CRUST:

  • Half cup unsweetened applesauce
  • Half tsp salt
  • 1/4 or 1/3 cup cold water
  • 2 cups flour (all-purpose)

FILLING:

  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 3 large onions
  • Quarter cup of water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • One tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Half tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Two tbsp water

INGREDIENT NOTES:

ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR:

  • Here, you need to use flour so your crust makes a shape. You may mix half the amount of whole wheat flour for another idea as well.

UNSWEETENED APPLESAUCE:

  • Your tart crust will become soft if you use this ingredient. Here, you will not require oil in your recipe. This unsweetened applesauce will keep your recipe lighter. You may also crush a banana and add it, but the flavor will not stay the same.

ONIONS:

  • Onions are the basic ingredient to use in your recipe. These will become soft, and you will get a sweet flavor from them. You can use yellow onions or use red onions for an alternative as well.

BALSAMIC VINEGAR:

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Warm your oven to 190°C.
  2. Then take a mixing bowl and include salt & all-purpose flour in it to mix.
  3. Now, include unsweetened applesauce to mix so the mixture gets crumbly.
  4. Then gradually include cold water so you make a soft dough.
  5. Use a rolling pin to roll it so you can add it to the base of your pie dish.
  6. Next, take a non-stick pan and place it on low heat.
  7. Include the onion with some tbsp of water to cook for 25 minutes.
  8. Add more splashes of water if you feel the need.
  9. Also, add pepper, thyme, balsamic vinegar, and salt to the mixture.
  10. Now take a smaller bowl to mix water & cornstarch, and add this mix to the pan.
  11. Include almond milk in the pan and cook the mix for 3 minutes to make it thicker.
  12. Next, mix in nutritional yeast as well and add this filling to the dish.
  13. Bake this tart for 35 minutes and cool it before you cut it to eat.
